Vinted Tips & Tricks: Everything I Wish I’d Known Before Buying and Selling

Within a few days, I had purchased approximately seventeen things I absolutely didn’t need but somehow couldn’t live without.
A chocolate Fossil crossbody bag? Necessary.
Yellow floral bell bottoms? Essential.
Thankfully, after spending more time on Vinted than I’d care to admit, I’ve picked up a few tricks that have saved me money, helped me avoid scams, and even made me a little extra cash.
If you’re new to Vinted—or you’re wondering how people seem to find all the good deals—here are the things I’ve learned along the way.
What Is Vinted?
Vinted is a marketplace where people buy and sell secondhand clothing, handbags, shoes, accessories, home goods, and even some beauty products. Think of it as a giant online thrift store where you’re shopping directly from other people’s closets.
One of my favorite things about Vinted is that buyers don’t have to deal with traditional seller markups. Instead, buyers pay a small Buyer Protection fee, while sellers can list items without the heavy fees found on other platforms. It’s one of the reasons you can find such incredible deals.
They also occasionally run free shipping promotions, which is dangerous (in a good way). If you love vintage fashion, thrifted Y2K, discontinued handbags, or simply stretching your shopping budget, Vinted can be dangerously addictive.
Is Vinted Legit?
Yes.
I’ve bought multiple handbags, accessories, and clothing items through Vinted, and the overwhelming majority of my experiences have been positive.
Like any marketplace where individuals are selling to one another, there are dishonest people mixed in with thousands of wonderful sellers.
Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to protect yourself.
How to Find the Best Deals on Vinted
Here’s the biggest mistake new shoppers make. They search exactly what they want. Instead, search for everything except what everyone else is searching.
For example, instead of searching:

- Vintage Purse
- Brown leather purse
Try searching:
- Vintage Coach bag
- Chocolate leather handbag
- Brown buckle purse
- Y2K shoulder bag
- Leather hobo bag
- Genuine leather handbag
Many sellers don’t know exactly what they have, which means incredible listings often get buried under vague titles.
I’ve found some of my favorite, collectible bags for $7 simply because someone listed them as “brown purse.”

My Favorite Things to Buy on Vinted
Personally, I almost always check Vinted before buying something new. Some of my favorite categories include:

Buying secondhand often gets you much better quality than buying something brand-new or fast fashion for the same price. Super-vintage items are often built to last, and finding a rare keepsake is like magnet fishing for old pop cans and stumbling upon a diamond ring. Pretty cool.
Should You Make an Offer?
Absolutely. Just don’t insult people.
If someone has listed a beautiful leather bag for $40, offering $6 probably isn’t going to get you very far. They might even block you.
Be kind and reasonable.
I usually make offers that feel fair to both of us. If there’s a new and unused Smore’s Maker Machine I know is $32 on Amazon, but they’re selling it for $10, I don’t ask for $8.
Most sellers expect a little negotiation, and many are happy to accept reasonable offers just to free up closet space.
Bundle Items Whenever You Can
This is one of my favorite features in Vinted.
Many sellers offer automatic discounts when you purchase multiple items from their closet. Sometimes you also save significantly on shipping. It’s worth browsing the rest of someone’s listings before checking out.
I’ve accidentally discovered some amazing finds this way.
Don’t Ignore Listings With Bad Photos
Don’t. Make. This. Mistake.
Some of my best purchases came from listings with terrible lighting.
Why? Because everyone else skipped over them.
If the seller has good reviews and answers your questions, don’t let poor photography scare you away. She might be like Princess Fiona from Shrek. She’s only ugly in certain light.
Just be sure to check the condition the item is listed in, and you can always request additional photos of certain features if you’re really concerned.
Read Every Description Carefully
Always check for things like:
- Stains
- Peeling leather
- Missing hardware
- Broken zippers
- Odors
- Smoke exposure
- Pet hair
I don’t mind restoring things that are broken, discolored, or stained. But I do mind opening a thrifted vintage Coach bag only to discover a fart demon has taken up residence inside.
Word to the wise–read the listing and the store reviews before you buy.
How to Sell Faster on Vinted
The biggest difference between listings that sit forever and listings that sell quickly usually comes down to presentation.
Take clear photos in natural lighting. Photograph every angle, and show any flaws. People appreciate transparency.
If your item has a scratch, photograph it. If it’s missing a charm, mention it.
Trust builds sales. And shoppers on Vinted are very vocal about their experience with sellers. How you sell your products will be reflected in your reviews.
Write Better Titles
Instead of listing your purse as: Brown Purse
Try something like: Vintage Fossil Brown Leather Shoulder Bag with Brass Hardware
Think about what someone looking for this item would actually type into the search bar. Ask yourself, what would you type into Google if you were trying to find something like it? The more descriptive your title is, the easier your listing will be to find.
Price It Realistically
It’s tempting to price everything high because “someone might pay it.”
Maybe.
But if your goal is actually selling the item, compare similar sold listings first. I’d rather sell something this week than stare at it sitting in my closet for another year.
Ship Quickly
One of the easiest ways to earn positive reviews is simply shipping your items promptly.
I know life happens. But if you can package and ship within a day or two, buyers remember that.
Fast shipping builds trust. Additionally, Vinted gives special badges for people who list often and ship quickly. These plus high ratings are great to have when selling high-end items, because it means you’re a trusted seller.
Be Nice
This sounds ridiculously obvious. But kindness really does go a long way.
Answer questions politely. Thank buyers. Communicate if there’s a delay. Most people on Vinted are just regular folks cleaning out their closets.
Treat them like neighbors instead of customers.

Does Vinted charge selling fees?
One of the biggest reasons sellers love Vinted is that there are generally no traditional seller fees in many regions. Buyers typically pay a Buyer Protection fee instead.
Can you return items on Vinted?
Returns are generally only available if an item arrives significantly different from its description or if there’s another issue covered by Vinted’s Buyer Protection policies.
Is it safe to buy designer handbags?
It can be, but always examine the photos carefully, ask questions, and be cautious if a luxury item is priced far below market value.

…it probably is.

Final Thoughts
I genuinely love buying secondhand. And not just because it saves money.
Every once in a while, you stumble across something that feels like it was waiting for you. A discontinued perfume. A vintage leather handbag. Some cozy granny panties… I mean… sweater.
The best secondhand finds aren’t always the most expensive. They’re the ones that make you stop scrolling, grin like an idiot, and think,
